Speaker 1:

Hey there, this is Kathy. This is the Fun Over 40 podcast. Thanks for joining. Today I'm going to talk to you a little bit about a new offer I have and I'm actually super excited about it. It deviates just slightly from my health coaching offers and I want to kind of explain how I got to it and what it is. So I've been a health coach for years.

Speaker 1:

I was a little background here. Been a health coach for years, started in 2008, is when I was initially hired full-time by a health care company to be a health coach. In 2008, health coaching was not really a thing. To be totally honest, I wasn't exactly sure what I was doing. I had a master's degree in exercise science and I had worked for about three and a half years in a hospital-based fitness center. So I had basically been doing health coaching, more specifically, exercise coaching at the fitness facility or the wellness center, but it was in person. So this health coaching that I was hired to do was going to be predominantly virtual, telephonic, some in-person, some class teaching, but more like seminar-based classes versus I was used to teaching group exercise classes. So it was a little deviation More talking to people, more making recommendations, more sending some workouts, that sort of thing.

Speaker 1:

Eventually, with that same company, we shifted to more of what's called holistic health coaching. So, versus I was doing specifically exercise health coaching, I started coaching people on nutrition, on lifestyle changes, on stress management, on sleep management. This happened gradually, and I definitely had guides for this. We had what we called plans of care and we followed those plans of care if someone was referred for cholesterol management, let's say, or hypertension, that sort of thing, and I became more of an expert in chronic condition management. So then, exercise, though I should say, has always been my first love. I mean, I have a degree in exercise science, so that's my first love. As I have said many times maybe you've heard me say this exercise is my love language. I appreciate exercise for, yes, its multitude of physical benefits, but as I've gotten older I have appreciated it even more for its positive mental health benefits as well. So going for a walk to relieve stress, that sort of thing. So, anyway, then I became certified in multiple different types of exercise techniques. I have become friends with more people that have got certifications to coach or be a health coach in some way, an exercise coach or nutrition or both, but what I have found is a lot of these folks have the desire to help. They have a certification that gives them the knowledge to share with clients, but what they don't have is really that business side. And I should also back up and say I have also been in a business mastermind group for going on two years now, and even prior to that business mastermind group I worked with two business coaches.

Speaker 1:

Prior to the business mastermind group I'm in now, and when I say mastermind for some of you maybe you've heard of that, maybe you've never even heard of that and you don't even know what that means. So I'll give you a quick summary and I will actually post a link to my business mastermind group in the show notes so that you can check it out. Maybe it's something you're interested in. The cool thing about a business mastermind group is this you are in a group. Mine is virtual. We meet in person twice a year, but outside of that it's virtual. It's a group of for me, women.

Speaker 1:

Now there are masterminds that are mixed gender, but mine is all women. We are all business owners and most of us are what you might call a solopreneur, meaning we run everything right, like we help clients or we create a product and we also do all the marketing and the emailing and we post on socials and we have podcasts, and I mean we do everything. You know, maybe some of us have a virtual assistant to help out a little bit, or maybe to help in a specific area, like helping with content or something like that social media content or email marketing content but for the most part, we do everything ourselves. Now some people make enough money in their business so that they can do it full time, which is awesome, and for a lot of people that's the goal. For some people they have a full time job or maybe a part time job. That's different from their own business and they do both and maybe they want to keep doing both. You know, for some people they really like their part time job or their full time job and they want to have their business on the side anyway. So there's all sorts of women and different businesses that are in the business mastermind group and then we also have a coach. So she is a mentor or a coach or a guide who sort of leads us through the process.

Speaker 1:

So as part of the mastermind group, we meet regularly to brainstorm, to help each other out with ideas, because the thing with having your own business by yourself is it can be very lonely. I was actually just talking to a friend yesterday who has her own business locally here in Chattanooga and she was saying that exact thing. So I thought it was so funny. I started to tell her about the mastermind because I was like you might appreciate this. She was saying you know you have that it can be very lonely and there's no one to just like bounce ideas off of, whereas if you work in a job a traditional sort of corporate job, even if it's not corporate, if it's just like five of you that work for a small business, you at least have one person that you can bounce ideas off of. So that's what you don't have as a solopreneur. And typically your friends and family if they even know about your business, they don't really understand it or like probably understand why you're doing it, much less can help you talk through like an email sales funnel or something like that. They might not even know what that is. So in the mastermind you are in a group with other women and you have people you can talk to and ask questions to and that sort of thing. The other cool thing about our mastermind is our coach Holly brings in other people to into the group to teach us on their specific topic of expertise, so it might be email marketing or content creation or finances, that sort of thing. So that's great too.

Speaker 1:

So, anyway, I've been in this mastermind for several years. I have learned so much and I will say one of the great things I have learned from Holly is how to organize and strategize your schedule to get stuff done, especially if you are working outside of your own business. So if you're working full time or part time or you're a full time mom that sort, that is obviously a full time job. It's more than full time. It's a lot of overtime there without pay, right? I mean paid in other ways, not money Anyway and honestly, I've carried a lot of those things that I've learned from Holly about being intentional with your schedule and intentional with your time into coaching health coaching because it's really what I believe as well as far as time management.

Speaker 1:

You know, when I started health coaching excuse me I realized a lot of what I was doing was really helping people with their time management, because one of the big arguments you'll get, or I would get, as a health coach, especially when it came to exercise, was managing your time. This is why I offer a very basic time audit tool to help you find time to exercise. I had a podcast about it I don't remember which one, but I did have a podcast on time management and how important that is so that you can fit in exercise. Well, it's the same thing with building a business, especially if you're super limited on time. You know setting aside one hour a day and being very intentional with what you're going to do with that time. And then, in addition to that, what are the important needle movers in a small business when you first get started and as you grow that are important to do in that one hour of time each day? So again, these are the things that I've learned as I've worked in this business mastermind.

Speaker 1:

Well, as I have met other health coaches that again, have the passion, have the empathy, have the knowledge, have the certifications. They want to work with people and help them on their health and wellness journey in whatever way. However, they're certified, but what they don't have are the business systems in place and, to be honest, it's just like when you get on Instagram and you see all these people recommending different diets and different exercise strategies. There are just as many people recommending different ways to like run your business. There's business coaches, just like there are health coaches and nutrition coaches and exercise coaches. So if you're not in that space, though, and you don't have your own business, you may not know that. So, anyway, it's just, there's a lot of noise out there. So, just like I love working with the beginner exerciser or someone who has an exercise in a while and is trying to kind of rev that engine and create that habit, and my goal is always to work in baby steps right to get small wins that move the needle in your health, so that you can add on right. Like it's hard to add on to zero, but if you're doing 10 minutes of walking, we can add on to that, right, okay. So with that same idea that is my goal. So with that same idea, I created a product, a service, a coaching session tool that starts this week to help other health coaches. So what it is we're right. Today is Halloween, it's October 31st. As I'm recording this, you will be hearing this live if you're listening live on November 1st. What I have created in real time is a four session group coaching program called help coach biz basics boot camp and it is every Thursday evening in November 2023, except for Thanksgiving. We're going to skip Thanksgiving. So that leaves us with four sessions.

Speaker 1:

We are going to cover how to keep up with your clients. Stay organized with your current clients and your prospects right, because it is important to have a funnel is what we call it right Of prospects, but you need to keep up with them. You know, a lot of times we're messaging people on Instagram or Facebook or we're emailing or talking to people in person, but we're not keeping up with that Like for some reason. We think we're going to remember that we talked to Sally in February about our health coaching program and guess what, we're not. So we're going to keep up with that. We're going to organize that and we're going to organize our current clients so that we can obviously keep up with them. We're helping them regularly. Okay, what else are we going to cover? We're going to cover lead magnets.

Speaker 1:

What is a lead magnet? You might also know it as a freebie. So if you have ever seen on Instagram or Facebook or online on the web, you know a health coach might say get my free smoothie guide. Click here to get my free smoothie guide. I have a lead magnet. It is a free five-day protein challenge. That is a lead magnet or a freebie.

Speaker 1:

So the goal with a lead magnet or a freebie is to attract prospects to you, get them on an email list so that you can then begin nurturing them, because when a lot of people initially hear about your health coaching services, they may not be ready that day. But what they might like is your free smoothie guide or your free five-day protein challenge or whatever your freebie or lead magnet is. And then they'll give you their email, excuse me, and you can then get your free smoothie guide and you can then begin to what we call it nurturing them. You can send them regular emails to provide them with valuable content and help them get to know you, and then, as you continue to run your health coaching program, the goal is that eventually they will be interested. Okay, so when they first got the freebie, they're not interested. They don't know you, they don't know what you're about. But they get your freebie because you're providing something valuable to them for free. And then you nurture them and eventually they're interested and they become a pay client.

Speaker 1:

So how do you create a lead magnet. How do you set it up so that someone would be interested in it? How do you set it up so that someone can sign up for it? What kind of email do they get once they sign up for your lead magnet? Obviously, you're gonna deliver the lead magnet or the freebie, but what else might you do? So I'm gonna show folks health coaches how to do that in the email tool that I use, which is called FlowDesk, which I love, but I'm also gonna show you how to do a super free version in Gmail. Now, in FlowDesk it's gonna be automated, which is a wonderful, lovely thing to have something automated. But if you're not quite ready for that, you're not ready to pay for an email provider, service provider I can show you how to do it in Gmail. Okay then.

Speaker 1:

So that's week number two. So we've got organizing clients and prospects Week number one. Week two is lead magnets. Week three we're gonna start to discuss content creation. So we're gonna and I'll be honest I should say these are short, 45-ish minute sessions I'm gonna teach and I'm gonna have Q&A. Again, my goal is to work with either the beginner health coach or someone who is sort of restarting their business. Maybe they sort of had a failure to launch, if you will, because they just they got the certification, they have the knowledge, but they don't know what to do in the business space. And that's where, again, that's where I come in. Okay, week number three content creation. How do we create some templates in Canva? We love Canva. How do we create some templates that we can put on repeat on social media? Again, we're just trying to keep this super simple. And then how to create a basic reel. So that's an Instagram specifically, but you could theoretically download your reel as a video and post it to Facebook.

Speaker 1:

I think also in content, if we have time, it's important to speak about how do we organize content. You know who are we talking to, what are we going to talk about, and have just some basic content pillars. Some of the health coaches I'm working with may already have this, which is great. But just talking about basic content pillars meaning, what do we talk about? Like for me, I talk about being over 40. My focus is on perimenopause, postmenopause. I talk a lot about strength training and protein and baby steps. So these are things that I talk about regularly. I'm not trying to talk to a 25-year-old male, for example. I'm trying to talk to a 40-plus year-old woman. Okay, so stuff like that.

Speaker 1:

And then week number four, we are going to put it all together. I'm going to ask that the health coaches have a planner of some kind, or if they use just an online calendar. That's fine, because what I really want to talk through is now. We have our important things that we're going to do each week, each day of the week, in that valuable one hour of time that we set aside. But now let's put it together in real practice, like let's actually block an hour Every day. I want you to pull out your planner or pull up that online calendar and actually block it.

Speaker 1:

Look at your schedule. Is it the same time every day? Maybe it's early in the morning, you know 5 am to 6 am before your kids get up, because that's the only time you have to work on this. That's fine. Or maybe it's your lunch break. If you work full time and you have an hour for lunch, you could do it. Then Maybe it's you're a late-at-night person, you put the kids to bed and then you do it at, you know, 9 to 10 o'clock at night. You know, whatever. Whatever works for you is fine. Maybe it's different every day based on your schedule.

Speaker 1:

So you block that time and then, in each day that that time is blocked, I want you to write in, or type in, exactly what you're going to do. So let's say that it's 5 am to 6 am and you get up at 4.45 and you go make your coffee if you're me and sit at your computer. I don't want you to just stare at your computer screen for an hour. I want you to know exactly what you're going to do. I want you to get that stuff done, check it off, feel so, so good about what you have accomplished, be proud of yourself and then move on and not think about it the rest of the day. Move on with your kids, your work, your life, whatever, and know that you have already completed those tasks. If you have more than an hour, great.

Speaker 1:

But my goal is to help you get started and I find the frustration, especially with people like myself that work in a like full time or part time or full time parent, in addition to trying to build a business of your own on the side. Ok. So this is my goal with the health coach biz basics boot camp. Again, it starts this week. If you're listening to this in real time. So if you are interested, shoot me a DM on Instagram. I'll put a link in the show notes as well. I have a really basic form Google form for you, if you're interested. That lays out everything that I just described.

Speaker 1:

But I'm just really excited about this because I have helped some health coaches with some specific tasks in the past, like setting up their automated lead magnet. I've done some of the things that I've done in the past, like setting up their automated lead magnet tool in flow desk or creating a lead magnet in Canva that sort of thing or creating Canva templates but I think getting organized and intentional with your time is really the most important part, because until you do that, it really doesn't matter all the other things that you need to do right. You have to be, just like with your exercise routine, intentional and organized with your time, and that's really the only way to move the needle. So I'm just super excited. I've already got five people signed up In real time as I speak today, on October 31st 2023. So if you are interested in this first session, click the link in the show notes or just shoot me a DM on Instagram. I'm just, I'm just excited. I'm excited to help people take the knowledge they have and the desire that they have and remove the frustration and actually help them get some work done. So it's kind of a beta group, so it's a really low cost as well, I think. I've been told it's a really good deal, so I hope that you will join.

Speaker 1:

If you have questions, let me know. I'm trying to think of anything else. Like I said, there's a teaching component and a Q&A component, and then I'm also working on what. Where do these folks? So what I'm working on in my own business right is where do these people who are part of the help coach BISBASIC's boot camp go after the four weeks? Because most likely, hopefully, they're going to get great information and great knowledge out of this four week session and they probably are going to have some additional questions after, need some additional support after. So what does that look like? Does that look like a voxer group or a Facebook group or I don't know? I don't know what it looks like, so I'm thinking on that while I'm teaching this. So let that be a lesson to you as well.

Speaker 1:

To just get started, because I decided to advertise for this health coach's business BASIC's boot camp before I totally had it done, done, done, like all the way done. I had the outline of what I want to teach and in my mind I know what's going to be included in each week, but do I have every single you know outline for each class complete and what templates I'm going to offer for each class? No, do I for the first class? Yes, because it's this week, but I feel very confident in teaching this class and that I can help people, so I'm super excited. I'll shut up about it now. If you're interested, shoot me a DM on Instagram or click the link in the show notes and or share it with another coach that you know who might be interested in this and it might help them out. All right, you guys have a great day, happy Halloween, happy November, and I'll talk to you soon.
